Picture "La Lettera Z", unframed
Alexander Calder created this impressive work for the cycle "L'alfabeto di BolaffiArte" initiated by the "Club of 5000". With powerful strokes, he draws the striking contours of a reclining, sleeping man, from whose erect head flows the letter to be illustrated. Calder understands the situation as a visible sign of life and freedom, for without the air to breathe there is no life, and without freedom, without the space to develop one's own personality, dignified life is impossible.
Photolithography in three colours, signed by the artist, numbered on the back. Limited edition of 5,000 copies. Unframed. Sheet size approx. 29.8 x 23.5 cm (h/w).

About Alexander Calder

Alexander Calder was one of the most influential artists of Classical Modernism and became world-famous above all for his "Mobiles" and "Stabiles". He claimed of himself that he created "Mondrians that move".
Serenity, lightness, and humour characterise his oeuvre. He was inspired in his work by friends such as Hans Arp and Marcel Duchamp. Even as a graphic artist, he was impressive. What he was particularly interested in was the freedom to play with shapes and colours. The preoccupation with dynamics and geometry in the sculptures and mobiles thus found its counterpart on the canvas.
