Peter Nagel

Peter Nagel, born in 1941, founded in 1964/65 together with Dietmar Ulrich and Dieter Asmus the internationally highly regarded artist group ZEBRA, which has since become art history. The aim was to re-establish the connection between art and the world and thus create a modern, contemporary realism.

The formulation of new pictorial forms, in which perspective makes the pictorial object credibly visible again, very soon led to high international recognition.

Today, numerous paintings by Peter Nagel can be found in leading collections and museums of modern art – in Basel, Aachen, Düsseldorf, Florence, Hamburg, Kiel, Lausanne, New Delhi, Rome, Gottorf Castle and Munich, among others. Peter Nagel was a professor of painting at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel for 20 years (until 2005).
