She takes care of the dead together with her sisters Isis, Nephthys and Neith. The four tutelary goddesses guarded the shrine containign the entrails of the mummified Tutankhamun. They were supposed to protect the pharaoh in the afterlife and ward off dangers. The sculpture of the tutelary goddess Serket is one of the most magnificent creations of Amarna art. On her head, she wears the scorpion symbolising magic and healing. Her name translates to "(she who) tightens the throat" - she is the tutelary goddess of the people, but especially of the king.
