Equestrian statuette "Charlemagne", cast metal version

Emperor Charlemagne unified almost all of Europe, introduced many important political reforms and brought about the final breakthrough of Christianity in Europe. This equestrian statuette is one of the most precious treasures of world art and shows Charlemagne with an orb, sword and lily crown.
The original dates from the 9th century and belongs to the cathedral treasure of Metz Cathedral. Today the figure is a national monument in the Louvre, Paris.
