Detailed description

Picture "The 9th of November 89", framed

HP Zimmer (1936-1992), along with Jörg Immendorff and Markus Lüpertz, is one of the great names of contemporary German art whose works reflect German society and history in a special way. "The 9th of November 89" is a vision of Zimmer's, which he completed at the moment of its fulfilment. The painting was created on the night of the fall of the Berlin Wall: Deeply moved by the dramatic television images broadcast at the time, HP Zimmer immediately positioned his easel next to the television. And he painted an artistically unique contemporary document of German history that night between weeping, hoping and fearing. Because of its artistic significance and, of course, its political and historical dimension, "The 9th of November 89" was personally chosen by the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder for the Federal Chancellery.
