About James Rizzi

1950-2011 - Painter and graphic artist, New York pop artist

His friends called him Jimmy, and he looked like the nice boy next door. Despite his university studies and academic training in painting, etching, lithography and sculpture, James Rizzi miraculously managed to keep the positive qualities of children alive within him: Childlike curiosity, naive joie de vivre, fun with colorful things and the kids' games with which he painted dreary house walls made his work so likeable and popular. Jimmy was a true child of the New York melting pot before he became famous with his 3D prints. If you want to buy a James Rizzi picture, whether signed or an original, you will find that his artworks are now highly valued and collected worldwide.

The painter, graphic artist and sculptor James Rizzi was born in 1950 in Brooklyn, New York, where he also spent his entire childhood. Rizzi initially attended business school at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Gradually, however, he turned to art and finally graduated in 1974 with a degree in painting, graphics and sculpture.

In the first years after his college education, Rizzi sold his prints and paintings on the streets of New York (next to the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum). In 1977, James Rizzi was asked to present some of his works in the joint exhibition “Thirty Years of American Printmaking” at the Brooklyn Museum, in which Andy Warhol, Jim Dine and Roy Lichtenstein also participated. Since then, he has participated in countless solo and group exhibitions and celebrated successes all over the world.

James Rizzi's colorful 3D graphics are now sought-after collector's items. Many art lovers want to buy a Rizzi painting, especially the hand-signed originals, which are characterized by their high appreciation potential. For example, the painting “New York Marathon for all” was sold for 4,500 US dollars in 1997 and traded for over 15,000 US dollars just five years later.

In addition to art projects for everyday objects such as T-shirts, hats and ties, Rizzi has also worked with well-known brands. For example, he redesigned the “Beetle” for Volkswagen and gave a Boeing 757 of the airline Condor an exotic “Rizzi Bird” shell. He also used his cheerful designs for the Olympic Games in Atlanta and the EXPO 2000 in Braunschweig. The “Happy RIZZI House” in Braunschweig remains the first and only one of its kind.

Many of his 3D graphics, especially those with sporting motifs, have become valuable collector's items that have increased in value. Anyone wishing to invest in James Rizzi can now easily buy Rizzi paintings online, be it an autographed original or a limited edition.

James Rizzi, often regarded as the legitimate successor to New York pop art legends Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, lived and worked in New York's Soho district until his sudden death in December 2011. Buying a James Rizzi painting, whether signed or an original, is not only an investment, but also an opportunity to bring the artist's cheerful world into your home.
