Detailed description

Picture "Split Moon", on stretcher frame

Black clouds push their way through the crescent moon, causing the moon to appear to split in two. Cutler reproduces in a manneristic chiaroscuro (light-dark) painting style the romantic natural phenomenon of the moon passing by at night in a modern topos of eroticism.

Giclée print on canvas, stretched on a stretcher frame. Size 80 x 60 cm (h/w). Limited edition of 299 copies, signed and numbered on the back.

About Norman Alden Cutler

The German-American, born in 1960 in Stuttgart, Germany, is a graduated psychotherapist. His profound paintings are reminiscent of the concrete figurative paintings of René Magritte. In fact, the artist is concerned with depicting the mystery of a picture not in a formally abstract way but rather in a content-oriented way: "Nothing formal or any other complications need to be added to the complexity of the inner and outer reality. That only distracts from the essential. The moment of abstraction in my works lies in the theme, the summary of the essential and in the concentration on the composition in which everything emerges."
