Our Lady of Lourdes

Every year, more than 2 million people make a pilgrimage to Lourdes in south-western France, attracted by the story of 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous, to whom the Madonna appeared in 1858 and who witnessed the birth of the holy spring. The statue of the Madonna from the early 20th century is the focal point of the pilgrimage site.

Woodcarving artists from Val Gardena have hand-carved the Madonna with roses at her feet from maple wood, painted and partly gold-plated it. Height 29 cm.
