Detailed description
Sculpture "The World", version in artificial marble
His statues, mural reliefs and fountains, sculptural groups, collages and exhibitions in Germany and abroad have made the painter and sculptor Rainer Stiefvater from Baden, Germany, widely known. Thus, his work, which solemnly and hieratically praises the beauty of creation, was only published in a small edition and could soon be out of print.
The artist was fond of mystery cults and his archaic frontal figure was inspired by the sculptures of Freiburg Cathedral. However, in the process, he returned to their natural-cultural sources, to the Magna Mater, once celebrated as the mistress of the earth with orgiastic spring festivals. This cycle is also symbolised by the growth rings rising from her shoulders. On her back, she carries a lizard, a symbol of the dark powers since the High Middle Ages.
Edition in polymer-bound marble. Edition of 49 copies. Height 165 cm.
About Rainer Stiefvater
The German painter and sculptor Rainer Stiefvater was born in 1943. He trained as a stove fitter and tiler, but he soon devoted himself to the fine arts and trained at the Basel School of Applied Arts and the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. In over 40 years as a freelance artist, he created an extensive body of work, including sculptures, statues, wall reliefs, fountains and material pictures, which he designed both abstractly and figuratively.
In addition to exhibitions at home and abroad, he has taken on various public commissions, including sculptures for the city of Freiburg.
Marble powder is polymer-bonded. Artificial marble is characterised by a fine white surface that appears very similar to marble.
A plastic work of sculptural art made of wood, stone, ivory, bronze or other metals.
While sculptures from wood, ivory or stone are made directly from the block of material, in bronze casting a working model is prepared at first. Usually, it is made of clay or other easily mouldable materials.
The prime time of sculpture after the Greek and Roman antiquity was the Renaissance. Impressionism gave a new impulse to the sculptural arts. Contemporary artists such as Jorg Immendorf, Andora, and Markus Lupertz also enriched sculptures with outstanding works.
