Detailed description

Replica "Canopic Lid Depicting Queen Kiya", cast

The magnificently shaped canopic lid in the shape of a woman's head with a broad neck collar was used to close a large jar. A total of four of these calcite canopic jars were made for the funeral of Queen Kiya, a concubine of Akhenaten. A few years later, with some slight changes, they were reused on the occasion of the burial of Smenkhkare. Therefore, the place of discovery of the jar was the resting place of this ruler in the Valley of the Kings.
Original: Egyptian Museum, Cairo. Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, c. 1340 BC, alabaster.
