Detailed description

Sculpture "Tutelary Goddess Isis" (original size), gold-plated

"I am all that has been and is and will be" is how an inscription on one of her countless statues characterises the "magical" and the "goddess with the 10,000 names". For Egyptians, she was the goddess of motherhood, women and childbirth. She was considered the mother of the gods and the tutelary goddess of the reigning pharaoh.

This figure was one of the four tutelary goddesses who guarded the shrine containing the entrails of the mummified Tutankhamun. The goddesses were supposed to protect the pharaoh in the afterlife and keep dangers away from him. The shrine with the goddesses was discovered in a room right next to the coffin chamber. Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, c. 1335 BC.
Original: Egyptian Museum, Cairo, Tutankhamun's treasure.

ars mundi sculpture model, hand-cast and hand-gilded. Original size. Height incl. wooden pedestal 96.5 cm.
