Detailed description

St. Bernward candlestick (reduction), bronzed version

Bishop Bernward of Hildesheim (960-1022), who was later canonised, had this candelabrum designed for his St Michael's Church in the bronze workshops in Hildesheim, which were famous throughout Europe in Ottonian times. The intertwined human and animal bodies symbolise the struggle between good and evil.
Original: St. Michael's Church in Hildesheim. Early Romanesque, around 1000 AD.

Reduction. Cast metal, cast by hand, with bronzed surface. Height 35 cm. Shipped without a candle. Due to the material, which can melt if exposed to excessive heat, candles should not be burnt down completely. Do not leave burning candles unattended.
