About Leo Windeln
Leo Windeln, born in Heinsberg in the Rhineland in 1962, has been able to establish himself as a painter twice if you will. First, as a young man who began painting at the age of only 16 and received public recognition for his first exhibition already in 1980. Nevertheless, the 1980s were mainly an educational time for him. In addition to his self-taught attempts, he perfected his skills in the art of still life and landscape painting at the Free Academy of Roermond in Limburg, the Netherlands, among other places.
He paints exclusively with high-quality oil colours on linen stretcher frames. The technique is a mixture of wet-on-wet and layered painting. Like the 'Impressionists', Windeln always paints without using the black colour. The motifs primarily originate from the local area and trips abroad. As much as the love for detail is part of his paintings (for example through the elaboration of a stinging nettle or the changing colour of a leaf on a shrub), capturing the mood of the light is as essential. The eternal striving for perfection, just like his artistic role models, becomes comprehensible and contributes to the charm of his painting.
When Windeln returned to painting after a break in 2003, he was immediately noticed again - and very soon beyond his hometown and internationally.
Since 2015, Windeln has been a member of the Bund Internationaler Künstler. His works can be admired in major international exhibitions such as Art Beijing China, Art Fair Luxembourg, and the Hong Art Museum China. His impressively naturalistic, detailed landscapes are even collected in Hong Kong and Japan.
Depiction of typical scenes from daily life in painting, whereby a distinction can be made between peasant, bourgeois and courtly genres.
The genre reached its peak and immense popularity in Dutch paintings of the 17th century. In the 18th century, especially in France, the courtly-galant painting became prominent while in Germany the bourgeois character was emphasised.
A one-of-a-kind or unique piece is a work of art that has been personally created by the artist. It exists only once due to the type of production (oil painting, watercolours, drawing, etc.).
In addition to the classic unique pieces, there exist the so-called "serial unique pieces". They present a series of works with the same colour, motif and technique, manually prepared by the same artist. The serial unique pieces are rooted in "serial art", a type of modern art, that aims to create an aesthetic effect through series, repetitions and variations of the same objects or themes or a system of constant and variable elements or principles.
In the history of arts, the starting point of this trend was the work "Les Meules" (1890/1891) by Claude Monet, in which for the first time a series was created that went beyond a mere group of works. The other artists, who addressed to the serial art, include Claude Monet, Piet Mondrian and above all Gerhard Richter.
