Detailed description

Sculpture "Metamorphosis", bronze

Drawing strength from constant transformation: Maria-Luise Bodirsky's "Metamorphosis".

Since 1994, the artist has devoted herself to the theme of metamorphosis. She is fascinated by Ovid's epic "Metamorphoses", which are ancient mythological stories of transformation about becoming and dying. Moreover, she is fascinated by the evolution of humankind, changes, and the solidification and liberation from those changes. Those topics inspire her to create works about different states of being. Every phase of life involves letting go of the old and the possibility of a new beginning.

About Maria-Luise Bodirsky

Born in 1952, sculptor and ceramist

It is the basic elements of earth, water, fire and air that the sculptor and ceramist Maria-Luise Bodirsky, born in 1952, combines in her sculptures and the working process. Clay is her elementary artistic medium when capturing, tracing and depicting the inner and outer conditions of her figures.

Bodirsky draws inspiration for her archaic-looking figures from the early human history such as ancient Egyptian culture, Greek mythology and the Old Testament, or modern literature for example of Pablo Neruda.
