Detailed description

Picture "Stop and Search" (2007)

A policeman in full riot gear searches a little girl, based on Judy Garland's character of Dorothy in the classic film "The Wizard of Oz". Banksy's themes always feature a political background. This motif refers to the "stop and search" practice of the police in the United Kingdom.

For many years, the big cities of Great Britain have been facing a problem with youth gangs, which even fight each other with weapons. The resulting police practice, which involves stopping and searching children, even those as young as 9 or 10 years old in the street, is highly controversial and continues to provoke public criticism. Banksy addresses the issue of the omnipresent state apparatus with his ironic pop-cultural reference.

Original colour serigraph, 2007. Edition: 500 copies, numbered and signed. Motif size/sheet size 80 x 60 cm. Size in frame 85 x 64 cm as shown.

About Banksy

He leaves his subversive graffiti all over the world and has already sneaked several of his artworks into major museums unnoticed. Supposedly born in Bristol in the mid-1970s, the guerrilla artist Banksy is probably the best-known and, at the same time, most mysterious representative of Urban Art. His works for the art market are rare and highly sought after. Among his collectors are Hollywood stars such as Brad Pitt and, by now, also significant museums.
