Detailed description
Sculpture "The Thinker", bonded bronze version
The work of thinking: Margot Stöckl's character head "Der Denker".
"The Thinker" is less an anatomical study and more a picture of the strenuous activity of thinking. With his chin nestled in his hand and his eyes closed, he pursues his deep train of thought, his forehead furrowed by a "Denkefalte", which is the German word for "worry line" and can be literally translated as "thought wrinkle". An original, expressive work, whose jagged form leads to interesting shadow effects in sunlight as well as in artificial light.
Edition in bonded bronze. Limited to 199 copies, numbered and signed. Cast by hand with bronzed surface. Size 23 x 30 x 21 cm (w/h/d). Weight 9.84 kg.

About Margot Stöckl
Margot Stöckl, born in 1939, comes from Zillertal, Austria, and was already in her youth passionate about creative and fine arts. Although she consequently attended the Höhere Technische Lehranstalt für Kunsthandwerk in Innsbruck, it took years before she was finally able to devote all her energy and time to art.
Stöckl works with wood, clay, stone and metal. She became known through a still-growing series of works entitled "Kopfarbeit" (eng.: Headwork). For this series, the artist depicts expressive portraits of ideal-typical personifications ("The Doer", "The Knower", "The Unbending") or representatives of different cultures ("The Iroquois", "The Aztec"). These works are similar to the tradition of her compatriot Franz Xaver Messerschmidt (1736-1783).
Sculptural representation of a person's head and shoulders.
Bronze powder is polymer-bonded. Special polishing and patination techniques give the surface of the casting an appearance similar to the bronze.
Term for an art object (sculpture, installation), which is produced in multiple copies in a limited and numbered edition according to the artist‘s will.
Artist's multiples have been called the most accessible and affordable art on the market.
A plastic work of sculptural art made of wood, stone, ivory, bronze or other metals.
While sculptures from wood, ivory or stone are made directly from the block of material, in bronze casting a working model is prepared at first. Usually, it is made of clay or other easily mouldable materials.
The prime time of sculpture after the Greek and Roman antiquity was the Renaissance. Impressionism gave a new impulse to the sculptural arts. Contemporary artists such as Jorg Immendorf, Andora, and Markus Lupertz also enriched sculptures with outstanding works.
