Detailed description

Relief Sketch "Stroll Through the Garden"

The coloured relief sketch shows the meeting of a young royal couple from Amarna. However, the common designation of the figures as Semenchkare and Merit-Aton, Akhenaten's son-in-law and the eldest daughter are questionable. Leaning on a long staff, the ruler stands casually in front of his wife, who is handing him a bouquet of flowers. Fashionable refinement characterises the royal attire: a blue curly wig with uraeus and neck ribbons, a broad collar and the finely pleated apron with sash and several decorative ribbons. The queen wears a loose robe that emphasises her body shape more than it conceals. A flower neck collar and the blue hair cap with double uraeus complete her regalia. Unlike her husband, she has not put on sandals. The graceful scene is entirely in the style of the late Amarna period.
