About Ruth Bussmann

"After taking my own photos of people I observe on streets and squares, I start working on the picture. Mostly, I paint views of people from behind, as they walk or stand. There is no indication of where they come from or where they are going. The surrounding space consists only of areas of colour. Formally, I am interested in the communication of colours and the composition of figures and space. I am interested in reduction and abstraction. The colour space is pure emotionality and can offer the viewer a surface for projection." (Ruth Bussmann)

Born in 1962 in Kirchhellen (Westphalia), Germany, Ruth Bussmann trained as a graphic designer and worked as a freelancer until 1992. From 1992-1994, she studied Fine Arts/Painting at the Kunstakademie Münster under Prof. Jochen Zellmann, and from 1994 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Prof. Beate Schiff, becoming her master student in 1996 and receiving her diploma from the academy in 1997.

In 1998, she was nominated for the 9th European Festival Arte Viva, Italy, and in 2001, she was awarded the Art Prize of the Sparkasse Bayreuth.

Her works are exhibited at national and international art fairs, in art associations and museums, and are included in public and private collections. Since 2012, Ruth Bussmann has been living and working in Bad Wildungen
