Detailed description

Sculpture "Bondage" (2019), bronze

Stephan Marienfeld's bondage works give the impression that the form wants to penetrate between the tautly stretched rope but is prevented from doing so. This juxtaposition offers both erotic connotations and associations of phenomena in nature. The student and long-time assistant of Tony Cragg first used a balloon for his sculptures, which he tied with a rope, then moulded them, cast them in concrete and porcelain and tied the objects again with a rope - the result is a new, hybrid form.

Sculpture in highly polished bronze, 2019. Edition: 7 copies, numbered and hand-signed. Diameter: 32 cm.

About Stephan Marienfeld

Stephan Marienfeld (born in 1966) is a trained stone sculptor. He was a student and assistant of Tony Cragg for a long time.

Marienfeld's work, with its numerous sculptures, follows the tradition of the figurative. With an unmistakable aesthetic, he creates abstracted bodies from materials such as polyester, lacquer and aluminium, which seem to possess a character of their own.

He has received numerous art awards and many of his works are part of public and private collections.
