WP Eberhard Eggers

1939-2004

WP Eberhard Eggers, who lived in Germany, France and the United States, is internationally recognised as a painter, sculptor, and cosmopolitan, and one of the main masters of Fantastic Realism.

Eggers' oeuvre combines classical, rational forms with the playfulness and inventiveness of calligraphic arabesques, creating highly artificial and fascinating imagery. Women, depicted in various metamorphoses, play a central role in Eggers' art. Critics have described his work as demonstrating a baroque delight in the marvellous.

Eggers' works can be found in many museums around the world, including the Albertina in Vienna and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
