Pomeranian State Museum
An overview of life in the Pomeranian region from the Stone Age to the 20th century awaits visitors at the Pomeranian State Museum in Greifswald, Germany. Art, culture, history, and landscape development spanning around 14,000 years are explored within the six buildings and four outdoor areas. A special focus lies on reconciliation and understanding with the Republic of Poland, as well as dialogue with other Baltic Sea neighbouring countries like Sweden and Denmark. The Pomeranian State Museum is part of a foundation with the same name, established in 1996. With the involvement of the city of Greifswald, the University of Greifswald as well as the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the federal government, the museum was opened in the award-winning and impressive building complex in 2005. The collection of the Pomeranian State Museum now encompasses around 60,000 objects, with the painting gallery standing out with several highlights. The collection includes famous artists of art history from Romanticism to the 20th century, such as Caspar David Friedrich, Max Liebermann, Vincent van Gogh, and Emil Nolde.
