About Anders Zorn

1860-1920

Anders Zorn was born in 1860 as the illegitimate son of a German brewer and a Swedish woman. His outstanding talent was discovered early on. At the age of 15, he attended the sculpture school, and at only 17, he was accepted by the Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. When he was young, he travelled all over Europe. He kept in touch with internationally well-known artists such as Manet, Renoir and Liebermann. Deeply rooted in his Nordic homeland of Sweden, he returned to Mora, not far from his birthplace Yvraden, in 1896 and opened a museum for his works and his collection of folk art. Today the "Zorn Museum", is one of Sweden's most visited cultural monuments.
