David Spiller

David Spiller (1942-2018) studied painting at the renowned London Slade School. Besides his teacher Frank Auerbach, Spiller named Pablo Picasso and Jean Dubuffet as artists who influenced him. Nevertheless, he clearly referred to Pop Art with the motifs he chose, their strong colours and clear contours in combination with snippets of text. Spiller borrowed the lines of text for his playful and cheerful works from his favourite songs. He thus adds a personal touch to the popular motifs.

His works are often exhibited alongside those of Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Jim Dine.
