Jean Tinguely

1925-1991

The Swiss painter and sculptor Jean Tinguely became famous above all for his "kinetic art", which are movable metal sculptures. As early as 1944, he began to design space-occupying machine-like objects and thus became an important pioneer of contemporary art in the 20th century. From the 1960s onwards, Tinguely exhibited regularly all over the world, including three times at the documenta and the MoMA in New York.
