Detailed description
Bauhaus Walter Gropius "Forum Crossing Mondrian" wristwatch – Made in Germany – Sapphire crystal – 39mm
The designer Daniel Eltner explores Piet Mondrian’s painting “New York City 1”. The rectangular grid of the city’s layout along the Hudson River served as inspiration for the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian. In “New York City 1”, Daniel Eltner isolates the intersections and attempts an aesthetic and polychromatic re-examination of the focal details. Different planes intersect, overlap, tower above one another and interconnect. Metaphors for the metro, bridges, skyscrapers and fibre-optic cables. As stylistic devices evoking the pulsating energy and cultural diversity of this metropolis. Last but not least, the watches in the “Crossing Mondrian” collection are reminiscent of sacred crosses. The right angle, revered in equal measure by “De Stijl” and the Bauhaus, defines the cross and is one of humanity’s oldest symbols.
