About Jonathan Meese
He is the revolutionary of the German art scene. Jonathan Meese, born in Tokyo in 1970, is one of the most important but also most discussed German artists of his generation. He has risen like a comet in the international art world. His works can be found in museums such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and public collections such as the Sammlung Zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Bonn.
Meese's works are an expression of his powerful rebellion against reality. With his work, he wants to missionise the world. His preferred motifs are the villains of contemporary history. He only succeeds in defeating them when his art is more radical than reality. Jonathan Meese paints anarchically, provocatively and without restraint. Often straight from the tube. His style is uncompromising. He paints, models, performs, gives readings and directs. Extreme. Weird.
