Picture "Fuji from Gotenyama at Shinagawa on the Tōkaidō" (c. 1830-32), framed
Hokusai (1760-1849) was one of the most important representatives of Ukiyo-e, the Japanese colour woodblock print. Artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt were influenced by his pictures. This motif originates from his famous series of pictures named "36 Views of Mount Fuji" (1830-36), in which Hokusai captured the landscapes around Japan's highest mountain.
