Detailed description
Picture "Under the Volcano" (2012)
Marc Quinn says about the motif of his work "Under the Volcano": "Orchids are perfectly grown little sculptures. They make us realise that sexuality, life and colour are what keep the earth moving."
The artist chooses a range of varieties of flowers from different continents for his floral works, which would never bloom at the same time. Quinn thus photographically assembles the flowers and fruits of the plants into an omnipotent, aesthetic organism. At the same time, the artist plays with this depicted, plant-like over potency and, conversely, also makes the viewer aware of the transience that seems to culminate in recurrence.
The digital print "Under the Volcano", an image of the "Queen of Plants", brings a flourish to any art collection.
Digital print, 2012. 150 copies on Somerset satin, signed by hand and numbered on the back. Motif size/sheet size 67 x 100 cm. Size in frame 72 x 105 cm as shown.
