Frappee" vase
3D printing sounds so unbelievably technical at first, which makes it all the more amazing how breathtakingly organic shapes can be brought to life. The printer applies layer after layer of approx. 1mm-thick ceramic until it has worked its way up from the base to the opening after around two and a half (!) hours. The vase is then fired in the kiln at 1,200°C, whereby the fine layered structure is retained - an enchanting contrast to the flowing, light pleated look. Last but not least, FRAPPEE is sealed from the inside with a glaze to half its height to make it watertight. To prevent the fine structure from gradually peeling out, it is happy to be cleaned by hand with a soft, damp cloth in the absence of a dishwasher.
